And you want to know how it benefits your body and health.

Because in this post, I’ll list the health benefits of wheatgrass juice based on studies and researches.

About Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass is the grass of wheat(Triticum aestivum) plant. 

You can grow and prepare wheatgrass in your house. 

Usually, it is consumed as fresh juice as wheatgrass shots but you can even purchase it in powdered and supplements form from stores.   

Although, you might have seen, still, that’s how wheatgrass looks.

That said, the above studies were conducted using high concentrations of thylakoids which is not typically available in wheatgrass juice.

Also, you can add thylakoids in your diet by eating spinach, kale, and lettuce, in short: leafy greens.

4. Could Help Kill Cancer Cells

Wheatgrass extract reduces the spread of mouth cancer cells by 41% according to one study. (Source). Scientists think that one-day wheatgrass will be used to make a drug to cure mouth cancer.

Also, wheatgrass ignites the effectiveness of chemotherapy and reduces its adverse effects. 

Although there are a lot of studies conducted. Still, we need more no strong evidence on the basis of which we say wheatgrass juice can be used as an anti-cancer food.

Wheatgrass juicer reduces the cholesterol level according to animal studies. 

Although you need cholesterol to produce vitamin D, make hormones, etc. But too much of it can block your blood vessels, thereby increasing the risk of heart problems.

In one study, rabbits were divided into three groups…

Group 1: Control Diet

Group 2: High Fat Diet

Group 3: High Fat Diet with wheatgrass juice

After 10 weeks it is found that group 3 shown reduces the total cholesterol level and increases “good” HDL cholesterol, compared to Group 1. (Source)

Another study, in which rats with high cholesterol levels given wheatgrass juice resulted in lowering “bad” LDL cholesterol level.

Potential Side Effect

Although drinking wheatgrass juice does not have any adverse effects but some people may be allergic which can cause problems.

Also, women during pregnancy or breastfeeding avoid wheatgrass or consult with a doctor before adding it in your diet as there is no evidence on the safety of drinking wheatgrass juice during this period. So it better to stay on the safe side and avoid it.
